Center to Give Basic Recycling Education Over Zoom

The Burbank Recycle Center is hosting a webinar focused on helping the community understand recycling and answer other waste reduction questions on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 6-7:30 p.m. on Zoom.
This 90-minute session, “Curb Your Recycling: Understanding Recycling and Waste Reduction,” is an essential starter kit to help residents navigate past the confusion of packaging with tips on how to reduce creating disposal in the first place — a condensed Cliff Notes version of the intensive eight-class, zero-waste training program, “Waste Warriors.”
Led by Amy Hammes of the Burbank Recycle Center, she will cover the six Rs of waste reduction: Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Return (nutrients back to nature), and discuss these topics:
• What is recycling (and what it isn’t)
• What happens with discarded material when it is picked up and goes “away”
• Understanding of various plastics and packaging types
• Electronics and household hazardous waste
• Organics (yard clippings, food scraps)
• Waste reduction and prevention tips
• The city’s “Where it Goes Search Tool” at BurbankRecycle.org
