Home Again Los Angeles will be distributing groceries to anyone in need on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 8 to 10 a.m.
Thanks to a special “Fueling Our Communities” grant provided by SoCalGas, HALA will be filling trunks with groceries for anyone who attends the event, though having a car is not a ticket to entry. Those who arrive on foot or by public transportation will also be accommodated.
The drive-thru grocery event will take place in the rear parking lot of George Izay Park, directly behind the Joslyn Center.
“SoCalGas has made many similar investments in local communities, with the intention of making certain the needs of our region are being met,” said Albert Hernandez, CEO of HALA.
SoCalGas and Home Again Los Angeles have been long-time partners. Together, they have set a goal to distribute groceries to 500 households from Burbank and neighboring communities.
“Over three years after the beginning of the pandemic, families are still trying to remain afloat,” Hernandez said. “The cost of living has skyrocketed. A one-bedroom apartment has hit $2400/month, gas has plateaued at $4.80/gallon and groceries have nearly doubled. This food distribution is a way to help our residents save a little money while making certain our residents don’t go hungry.”
Home Again Los Angeles is a local nonprofit homeless service agency that provides resources throughout the region from shelter to rental relief to educational workshops focused on homeless prevention.
