Bulldogs, Bears Suffer League Losses

The Burbank High School varsity baseball team was edged at Crescenta Valley High School in La Crescenta, 2-1, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.
Julian Gonzalez produced a double and an RBI while Joe Maslyk went 2-for-3 with a run. Danny Betancourt, Jimmy Cafferty and Ben Castillo each had a base hit while Adan De Paz walked once. Sophomore Colby Bette was tagged with the loss after allowing two earned runs on five hits with one strikeout over five innings while Robert Snyder pitched an inning of relief and allowed one hit.
The Bulldogs were shut out at Saugus, 3-0, in a nonleague game last Saturday. Cafferty, who had a hit and walked twice, took the loss despite racking up 12 strikeouts over five innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks in a fine pitching effort. Snyder pitched a scoreless inning of relief with a strikeout while Miklo Reynoso and Ryan Sebastion each walked once.
Burbank previously picked up an 11-5 victory over visiting Venice High of Los Angeles.
Bette allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over six innings. Cafferty went 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs, two runs and two stolen bases, Bryant Johnson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two stolen bases, and Reynoso went 3-for-4 with a run. Betancourt went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base while Dylan Wierbilis went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Maslyk recorded a double, a run and a stolen base while Castillo tallied a hit, two runs, an RBI and a walk. Sebastion walked twice, scored a pair of runs and stole a base while Gonzalez and De Paz each walked once and scored a run. Jake Reyes had a walk and an RBI while Ethan Lara walked once.
The fourth-place Bulldogs (9-6 overall, 5-4 overall) will host Arcadia for a league game on Tuesday, April 18, at 3:30 p.m. before visiting the Apaches on April 21.

BURROUGHS

The Bears lost at Arcadia, 4-1, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.
Sebastian Zamora went 3-for-3, Nate Chapman had a base hit, and Jarrel Bijasa walked twice and stole a base.
JBHS previously edged visiting Glendale in a league game, 5-4. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.
Third-place Burroughs (10-7 overall, 7-2 in league) will visit Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta on Tuesday, April 18, at 6 p.m. before hosting the Falcons on April 21.
