Burbank’s Coach Resigns Mid-Season

First published in the Jan. 14 print issue of the Burbank Leader.

In an unexpected announcement, Alan Simon confirmed to the Burbank Leader he resigned as Burbank High School varsity girls’ soccer head coach on Wednesday. He becomes the second BHS head coach who has resigned within the past four weeks.
Simon departed the program with three weeks remaining in the regular season while the Bulldogs sit seventh in the Pacific League standings with a 1-6 record (2-8 overall).
Burbank’s Athletic Director Patrick McMenamin confirmed the resignation and said the team had a meeting on Friday to discuss next steps. An interim manager was not named before the Burbank Leader’s press deadline.
“An interim will be put in place to lead our kids through the season and we will [fill] the position for head coach once the season concludes,” McMenamin said.
The timing is not ideal for the Bulldogs, who visited intracity rival Burroughs High for a Pacific League matchup Friday. More details will likely be included in next week’s issue of the Burbank Leader.
