Bulldogs, Bears Collect Tournament Victories

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ basketball team opened the San Gabriel Winter Classic this week with a pair of wins to extend its winning streak to three games.
The Bulldogs defeated San Gabriel, 71-48, in a tournament game on Wednesday, as senior captain Sattwik Banerjee posted a double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Junior Omar Payind racked up 17 points and two boards while senior Nathan Figueroa poured in 12 points with three rebounds. Senior Dante Shahbazian registered four points and three boards, senior Steven Harutyunian tallied three points and six rebounds, and sophomore Kevin Dehbashian finished with three points and three boards. Senior Alex Aroyan scored three points while senior Josh Navarro recorded two points and two rebounds. Senior Ashot Danielian produced two points and one board while junior Mike Gutierrez had two points.
Burbank opened tournament action with a 64-57 victory over Wilson High of Los Angeles on Tuesday, as Banerjee amassed 28 points and three rebounds.
Harutyunian racked up 14 points and four boards while Payind poured in 12 points and two rebounds. Figueroa registered three points and eight boards while Shahbazian tallied three points and four rebounds. Gutierrez recorded two points and two boards while Aroyan scored two points. Danielian collected five rebounds while senior captain Liam Baker and Navarro each had one board.
The Bulldogs previously defeated host Hoover High in Glendale in a Pacific League game, 69-56, as Banerjee scored a game-high 29 points. Danielian poured in 11 points, Dehbashian and Harutyunian each scored eight points, and Payind finished with seven points. Figueroa recorded four points while Baker had two points.
Burbank (5-8 overall, 1-3 in league) will resume league action by hosting Pasadena on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 5 p.m.

BURROUGHS

Burroughs High School’s Jagger Topp scored in a tournament game this week.

The Bears lost to Flintridge Prep of La Cañada Flintridge, 61-39, on the second day of the South Pasadena Tournament on Wednesday. Sam Horning poured in 13 points, Chase Kardosh scored seven points, and Tyrell Burrell and Landon Everheart each recorded five points. Jacob Samontina finished with four points, Elijah Orjuela tallied two points and Jagger Topp had one point.
Burroughs previously defeated La Salle College Preparatory of Pasadena, 73-68, in their tournament opener, as Kardosh and Horning each racked up 22 points. Elden Jackson registered eight points, Samontina scored nine points, and Arthur Gabrieylan, Everheart and Burrell each added two points.
Following the conclusion of tournament play this week, JBHS (8-5 overall, 2-1 in league) will resume league action by hosting Crescenta Valley on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 5 p.m.
