Bears, Bulldogs Pick Up League Wins

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ volleyball team lost a four-set nonleague matchup against powerhouse South Pasadena, 25-18, 25-20, 24-26, 25-20, on Wednesday at JBHS.
Junior Sadie Lomet collected 10 kills, senior Elizabeth Johnson tallied nine kills and senior Janessa Wareebor registered five kills.
JBHS picked up its first Pacific League win by sweeping host Hoover High in Glendale, 25-19, 25-6, 25-7, on Tuesday. Junior Tawnie Ohrt produced six kills, while Lomet tallied four kills. Wareebor, Johnson and senior Kara Aldana-Pere each posted three kills.
The Bears dropped their league opener last Friday to visiting Arcadia, 25-23, 27, 25, 25-21, as Wareebor registered 11 kills. Lomet finished with eight kills and Johnson had four kills.
Burroughs (3-8 overall) will visit Crescenta Valley in La Crescenta for a league matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 3:30 p.m.

BURBANK

Burbank’s Alyssa Ponsones tallied one ace as the Bulldogs lost a Pacific League matchup at Pasadena in four sets.

The Bulldogs lost their first Pacific League match 25-12, 25-14, 17-25, 25-15 after a four-set battle at Pasadena on Tuesday. Quinn Cramer collected six kills, five blocks and one ace, while Jolene Ngo amassed 20 digs and two aces. Alison Molloy produced six kills, Raquel Fox recorded three kills and one block, and Addison Ritner tallied three kills. Olivia Romagnino had 16 digs and one ace, Jasmine Cobb had 10 digs and Astoria Torres posted four blocks.
Isabella Barska registered one kill, one dig and two assists, Alyssa Ponsones finished with three digs, three assists and one ace, Liana Issaian logged two digs and four aces, Yara Khozahi notched one dig and one block, and Raquel Fox had one ace.
Burbank previously swept visiting Hoover High of Glendale in its league opener 25-12, 25-6, 25-13. Cramer collected seven kills, two blocks and one ace, Torres finished with six kills and two blocks, and Cobb tallied five kills and three aces. Ngo logged 14 digs and three assists, while Ponsones notched 13 assists. Barska registered four kills and eight assists, while Issaian and Ritner each posted two kills. Molloy had one kill and two aces, while Fox recorded two aces.
The Bulldogs (2-10 overall, 1-1 in league) will visit Glendale to continue league action on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 3:30 p.m.
