Inflation Requires Action

First published in the Sept. 10 print issue of the Burbank Leader.

Inflation hits everyone’s pocketbook, but especially those with low incomes.
A gallon of gasoline is the same price whether you earn minimum wage or a six-figure salary.
The immediate reaction to X% inflation is to ask for an X% salary increase, but this only stokes the inflationary fire, and is of little help to those with greatest need. The more logical approach is to increase incomes by a flat dollar amount, or a flat amount plus a small percentage, so that everyone receives a reasonable sum to offset their daily living expenses. If we fail to take action on this, including raising the minimum wage, then we face the prospect of more homelessness and destitution.
