Bears Improve to 2-0 With Nonleague Win

The Burroughs High School varsity football team remained undefeated in the early portion of the season with a nonleague victory over visiting St. Genevieve High of Panorama City, 27-19, last Friday.
Junior Ethan Hubbell paced the offense with five catches for 164 yards and a pair of touchdowns while rushing for six yards on one carry. He also posted nine tackles on defense.
Junior quarterback Chris Kulikov completed 12 passes for 232 yards and a pair of touchdowns while adding 23 yards on five carries. Junior Ryan Hernandez made one 18-yard reception while notching a pick-six and three tackles on defense. Senior Marcus Manahan rushed 12 times for 50 yards and a touchdown while collecting seven tackles on defense, and senior Dilan Webster had a pair of receptions for 15 yards.
Junior Noah Frenkel and senior Reznor Reeves each made a pair of catches for 20 and 15 yards, respectively, while the former added three tackles on defense. Meanwhile, junior Brodie Kemp went 2-for-4 in PAT attempts.
Senior Noah Crues led the defense by amassing a team-high 16 tackles and blocking a field goal while also gaining two rushing yards on three carries. Junior Alex Valenzuela notched eight tackles, senior Ricky Garcia produced six tackles, and senior Anthony Solis-Torrico registered five tackles. Senior Brian Noguchi posted four tackles, senior Collis Lurie, junior Brody Beebe, junior Reese Shuton, junior Santiago Sanchez and sophomore Patrick Lima each recorded three tackles, and junior Jaelin Smith finished with two tackles. Senior Stone Slothour, senior Robert Huynh, junior Anthony Rodriguez and sophomore Braden Turner each had one tackle.
Burroughs (2-0 overall) visited Westchester High in Los Angeles for a nonleague yesterday; the result was unavailable by the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Bears will host Hueneme High of Oxnard in a nonleague game this coming Friday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m.
