Bulldogs Ousted in First Round; Bears Advance

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ tennis team was eliminated from the CIF-SS Division II playoffs after falling at Dos Pueblos High of Goleta, 11-7, in a first-round matchup on Wednesday.

Bulldogs’ No. 1 singles player Adam Ridaoui swept his three sets 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, while No. 2 singles player Amrith Kodumuri also swept 6-0, 6-3, 6-0. The No. 2 team of Mark Lin and Christopher Krikorian tallied the lone doubles victory, 6-4.

The Bulldogs concluded the season as Pacific League runners-up with a 9-3 record (10-3 overall).

BURROUGHS

The Bears survived the first round of the CIF-SS Division III postseason after tying host Cate High of Carpentaria, 9-9, but winning in total games, 74-70, on Wednesday.

Bears’ No. 1 singles player Markos Mkrtchyan swept his three sets, 6-4, 6-0, 6-2, while No. 2 singles player Bernhard Woods also swept 6-2, 6-2, 6-5. Meanwhile, the No. 3 doubles team of Zion DuMonde and Michael Fraser picked up a sweep of their own, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0.

JBHS, which finished fourth in the Pacific League with a 3-9 record (4-10 overall), advanced to the second round and hosted Centennial High of Corona yesterday; the result was unavailable by the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Bears would advance to a quarterfinal match against either Royal High of Simi Valley (15-4 overall) or Notre Dame High of Sherman Oaks (9-9 overall) on Monday, May 9.
