The John Burroughs High School varsity softball team closed the Savanna Tournament with a 5-0 loss at Santa Margarita of Rancho Santa Margarita on Saturday, March 19. The Bears finished the two-weekend tournament with a 3-1 record after previously shutting out Garden Grove, 6-0, and defeating Troy of Fullerton, 6-1, on Saturday, March 12.
In Burroughs’ tournament finale, senior outfielder Gigi Garcia, senior infielder Isabella Scozzola and junior utility player Stevie Dabbadie each registered a double, while sophomore infielder Gizelle Rangsiyawong added a base hit.
In the first of two tournament matchups on Saturday, March 19, the Bears (14-4 overall record, 3-1 in league) crushed Los Angeles Venice, 15-3. Sophomore catcher Phoebe Spangler went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and a pair of runs scored, while Rangsiyawong collected a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Garcia finished 3-for-5 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored, while junior infielder Rachel Little collected three hits and a run scored. Sophomore outfielder Mia Ramirez tallied two hits, two RBIs and a run scored, senior infielder Kiley Christopher recorded a base hit and three runs scored, and senior utility player Kaynan Chrysikos went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Senior utility player Arley Pena registered a base hit and a run scored, while Dabbadie produced one hit, two runs scored and an RBI.
Burroughs is scheduled to resume league play by traveling to Pasadena on Tuesday, March 29, at 3:30 p.m.
BURBANK
The Bulldogs have been idle since losing a nonleague game 3-1 to visiting El Camino Real of Woodland Hills on Tuesday, March 15. Burbank (10-9 overall, 3-1 in league) is scheduled to resume league action by hosting Arcadia on Tuesday, March 29, at 3:15 p.m.
