All Job Classifications in BUSD Deserve Pay Bumps

First published in the March 26 print issue of the Burbank Leader.

I am sad to write that our union chapter board has decided to have members vote on the job study Thursday, March 31, in person from 1:30-5:30 p.m. at the Burbank Adult School auditorium.

We are to vote without having a question-and-answer session to address concerns regarding the inequity of the job study results.

Our chapter board, which consists of board members who are part of the job study negotiators and/or who are in favor of the job study, are hoping that most members will still be ignorant of the unfair results and bumps in pay negotiated to selected job classifications.

No paraprofessionals, most custodians and those who work in clerical, accounting, auxiliary and maintenance roles will not get any bumps in pay. The members who benefit from these bumps in pay will also be getting thousands of dollars in retroactive pay!

When we vote, there will be a 12-cent raise in condition if we vote yes on this job study. But don’t be fooled by this 12- cent raise! A 12-cent raise will only buy you a cup of coffee or a gallon of gas.

Vote with your conscience! Keep in mind that we are a union, and we all deserve a bump in pay. No one member deserves a bump in pay more than another!
