Bulldogs, Bears Sweep Weekend Tournament Games

The Burbank High School girls’ softball team has been firing on all cylinders after winning three of their recent games while outscoring opponents 28-0 over that span.

Burbank cruised to an easy 10-0 Pacific League victory over visiting Glendale to move to 3-0 in league (8-6 overall). Junior shortstop Samantha Buckley did damage at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, two runs scored and a stolen base, while senior outfielder Hannah Zacariaz collected a double, an RBI and a run scored. Senior captain Elizabeth Zamora went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while junior catcher Shelby Cribbs, sophomore pitcher Grace Workman and freshman infielder Maddison Kellogg each registered a base hit and a run scored. Sophomore captain Eliza Bowren stole two bases and scored once, sophomore outfielder Kara Valencia stole a base and recorded a hit, and sophomore outfielder Belinda Lujano scored once.

The Bulldogs swept their double-header at the Santa Fe Tournament last Saturday. Burbank shut out Mission Hills Alemany, 8-0, as Kellogg pitched six strong innings with 10 strikeouts. She also finished 1-for-3 at the plate.

Cribbs finished 2-for-3, including a double, with three RBIs and a run scored, while Zamora went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Valencia collected a base hit, two RBIs and a run scored, Bowren tallied two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, and Buckley finished 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Junior infielder Sasha Quintanar and Zacariaz each recorded a base hit and a run scored, while Lujano had two hits and a walk in four plate appearances.

Burbank opened the tournament with a 10-0 rout over Montebello on Saturday, March 5, scoring 10 or more runs for a second straight game. Workman tossed three innings with seven strikeouts, while Kellogg pitched two innings with three strikeouts. Quintanar collected two hits, two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk in three plate appearances, while Valencia and Zamora each tallied a hit, two RBIs and a run scored. Cribbs went 3-for-3 with a run scored and Lujano recorded a triple and two runs scored. Zacariaz had two hits and a run scored, while Bowren scored once.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to continue the Santa Fe Tournament by playing Temple City at a neutral venue on Saturday, March 12, at 11 a.m.

BURROUGHS HIGH

The Bears shut out host Chatsworth High, 10-0, in the back end of a double-header last Saturday. Burroughs did its damage in the first inning after posting 10 runs, allowing senior pitcher Kelsey Acosta to cruise through five one-hit frames while recording five strikeouts. At the plate, Acosta finished 1-for-3.

Senior Isabella Scozzola blasted a solo home run, while Dabbadie went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and a run scored. Sophomore outfielder Mia Ramirez collected a base hit, an RBI and a run scored, while junior infielder Rachel Little tallied a base hit, a walk and two runs scored. Christopher and sophomore Gizelle Rangsiyawong each added a base hit and a run scored, while senior Kaynan Chrysikos, senior Arley Pena and sophomore Phoebe Spangler each scored once.

The Bears opened tournament action with a 7-0 shutout over Sun Valley Poly, as Dabbadie twirled a complete-game three-hitter with 10 strikeouts. She also collected a double in three plate appearances. Little finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and a run scored, while Garcia and Chrysikos tallied two hits and a run scored. Spangler, Scozzola and Christopher each tallied a hit, an RBI and a run scored, Ramirez and Acosta each finished 1-for-3, and junior outfielder Laurel Piper scored once.

Burroughs (10-3 overall record, 2-1 in league) is scheduled to play Pico Rivera El Rancho in the Savanna Tournament on Saturday, March 12, at 11 a.m.
