The Burbank High School varsity baseball team continued its dominant string of Pacific League games by collecting back-to-back victories while outscoring its opponents 15-1 over that span.
The Bulldogs (3-0 league record, 5-3 overall) fired on all cylinders as they routed visiting Pasadena High, 9-1, on Tuesday. Burbank registered nine hits while the pitching staff combined for one earned run and six strikeouts.
Daniel Neria, who tallied a hit and scored a run, pitched four innings with two strikeouts while allowing one run and five hits. Jose Avellaneda, who recorded a base hit and a run scored, logged one clean inning with two strikeouts. Meanwhile, David McBride and Jimmy Cafferty each struck out one over one inning of work. Cafferty also collected a base hit, a run scored and an RBI.
Second baseman Wyatt Lamarsna went 2-for-3, including a double, with two runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI. Catcher Jared Cantu finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored. Third baseman Daniel Edwards and shortstop Danny Betancourt each had a run scored and a base hit, while infielder Dylan Robinson had a base hit and an RBI.
The Bulldogs shut out visiting Glendale, 6-0, last Friday as Josh DiPietro pitched six strong innings with two strikeouts to earn the win. McBride closed the door with a clean one-two-three inning.
Cantu brought power at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a solo home run, while Avellaneda went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Neria and Betancourt each collected a base hit and two runs scored, Robinson registered a base hit and Cafferty scored once.
Burbank is scheduled to continue league play at Hoover High in Glendale on Tuesday, March 22, at 3:30 p.m.
BURROUGHS
The Bears opened Pacific League play with three straight wins, including two recent victories over Glendale and Muir High of Pasadena. Burroughs has outscored its last two opponents 21-0 over that span and has scored 42 runs in three league games.
Burroughs blanked visiting Glendale, 16-0, on Tuesday after previously shutting out Muir, 5-0, last Thursday, March 3. No individual statistics were reported to the Burbank Leader.
The Bears (3-0 in league, 5-4 overall) are scheduled to open the Babe Herman Tournament by traveling to Lake Balboa Birmingham on Saturday, March 12, at 6 p.m.
