Burbank, Burroughs Ready for League Openers

The John Burroughs High School varsity boys’ volleyball team recently swept visiting Westlake High of Westlake Village, 25-13, 26-24, 25-15, in a nonleague match on Tuesday.

Justin Burras and Jeremy Lapeze had 12 and eight kills, respectively, while Christian Solano and Christian Lim registered 16 and 12 assists, respectively.

The victory comes just two days after breaking even at the Redondo Union Tournament in Redondo Beach last weekend.

On the final day of tournament play, the Bears lost to Thousand Oaks, 27-25, 14-25, 11-15, and Anaheim Servite, 17-25, 17-25, but defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 25-13, 25-17. Burroughs kicked off the first day of tournament action with back-to-back wins over Palos Verdes, 25-15, 25-19, and Downey, 25-15, 25-23, but dropped their match to Long Beach Wilson, 27-25, 23-25, 13-15 in pool play. No individual statistics were reported to the Burbank Leader.

The Bears ultimately finished tied for 10th in the tournament standings with an even 3-3 record over the two days.

Burroughs (6-3 overall record) is scheduled to begin Pacific League action by hosting Arcadia on Wednesday, March 9, at 3:30 p.m.
