Bears Open Playoffs; Bulldogs End Regular Season

The John Burroughs High School varsity boys’ basketball team opened the CIF-SS Division 3A playoff bid with a first-round matchup at La Cañada Friday night; the result was unavailable by the Leader’s press deadline.

If the Bears (3-4 Pacific League record, 16-9 overall) upset the Spartans (19-7 overall), they will advance to a second-round matchup against either Quartz Hill (12-13 overall) or Santa Barbara Bishop Diego (18-7 overall) on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m.
Burroughs previously ended the regular season by collecting back-to-back nonleague victories on Saturday, Feb. 5. The Bears opened the weekend with a 90-47 route at Panorama before winning at Los Angeles Bravo, 74-53. No individual statistics were reported to the Leader.

The Bulldogs concluded their season by falling to San Pedro, 78-73, at the Huntington Park Showcase on Saturday, Feb. 5.
Burbank missed the postseason after finishing sixth with a 2-5 Pacific League record (6-11 overall).
